Mikan

To perform the Mikan Drill correctly the player must start directly underneath the goal.  The player can choose to shoot a right handed or left handed layup “Mikan” shot, however, they must do it with proper footwork and use the appropriate hand.  To shoot a right handed Mikan, the player should step with their left foot and put their right knee in the air as they shoot with their right hand. From there, they rebound their own shot, take one step with their right foot and put their left knee in the air as they shoot with their left hand.  Players must rotate shooting on the left and right sides regardless of missing or making a shot.  A shot that goes in using the incorrect hand/footwork does not count nor does a shot preceded by a dribble.

Power Layup

To start, place a ball right on each block and have someone ready to get the rebound on each side of the blocks.  The player can choose which side to start on.  Starting position is with the player’s back to the goal.  The player can then pick up the ball, and “drop step,” taking a Big Step with their baseline foot and without taking a dribble.  As soon as the player completes the shot, they move on to the opposite block and perform the same move. Player alternates from side to side regardless of making or missing the shot. Click HERE to view.
